O-Week: Day 1

I can't believe the crap they write in Tharunka. It's not even funny. On the other hand, kudos for the Union (Or 'Source' as they are now known) for producing another tops voucher booklet. I especially like the 5% discount off Coles Gift card / Woolies 'Wish Cards' deal. *Cheesy asian grin*

Fantasy Basketball-Starved

NBA All Star Weekend. A weekend where some NBA players come together and strut out the fancy moves. Also a period where no fantasy basketball is played (Sat-Wed Sydney time) because there are no regular NBA games. Not happy for a guy like myself who's full into the stuff >:(

The only thing worth watching during the ASW is the Slam Dunk contest. How fun is it to watch the little guy* fly through the air and slam the ball down? Look at this year's winner - Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks. This guy is only 5'9'' tall! He soared over Spud Webb (5'7'' himself and winner of the same comp 20 years ago) and finished with a one-handed slam. Brilliant and breath-taking stuff.

*Someone who is < 6'2'' tall. So yes, I would be considered as a little guy in the NBA.

Kicking On!

Uni is 2 weeks away but I've been to campus for 3 days this week already and again tomorrow. I guess in a sense it's good cos I can get back into the habit of waking up early (3 days starting at 9am in S1? suX0r!) and also suss out the deteriorating peak-hour traffic condition along Victoria Rd. Man, it's bad. Take yesterday for example. Caught the express bus at 7:45 and got to the city at 9:15. 1.5 hrs to travel 15kms? I say it's time to plant cops along Victoria Rd on a regular basis and catch those bastards breaking the T3 transit lane rule or better still, implement a bus-only lane.

Anyway, went in to do thesis on Tuesday. We made some progress but not much so there's nothing really to write about. Have approx 15 wks till it's due. The countdown begins.

Yesterday and today was Kick-On conference with the theme 'running the race' and personally, alot of positives came out:
-Learning from 2 Timothy.
-Planning for O-day,O-week and getting a preview of the CBS program this year.
-Praying not just for CBS but other AFES groups around the country.
-Meeting and enjoying fellowship with people from other faculty groups. Turns out one of the MTS workers in FOCUS will be my TELE4363 tutor this session!

So that was the planning/learning part. Now comes the application bit. Tomorrow is O-day and then next week is O-week. It'll be exciting to welcome first years and get people to sign up to CBS but also challenging not knowing what might lie ahead (program going pear-shaped or finding it difficult/discouraged doing walk-ups). I think it's times like these where we as Christians stop and acknowledge that it's God who is in control of the whole show and we are his sidekicks who have the privilege of serving Him.

Sunday Funday

Tiring but absolutely awesome day today. Was probably not a good idea to go to bed at 4am anyways but with Boro DEMOLISHING Chelsea 3-0, just had to stay up and listen to the broadcast.

Anyway, this afternoon was Timothy Fellowship's first meeting of the year. Although it was great to see the high-schoolers again, you could say we were a bit disappointed with a turnout of 7. But we shouldn't have. It's not about how many kids we can get to a youth fellowship but how we can help them to get into a relationship with Christ. We can only trust God to provide more kids to come over the coming weeks. So for starters today we had a couple of getting-to-know-each-other games, a mini bible talk on following the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1) in our everyday living and also a segment called "The Loaf" (adopted..or pinched? :P from KYC) where the leaders were introduced to everyone. So all in all, I think it was a very good and fun filled afternoon whether we had 7 or 17 kids. Now we gotta wait for another two weeks for the next meeting!

After Timothy it was our cell group's long awaited Iron Chef cell social. Guys Vs Girls with the secret ingredient of........FROZEN VEGETABLES!! (nice idea Chris!). Our dishes were:
Entree-Rainbow Rockets(hasbrown with tuna and frozen vegies)
Main-Chicken & Vegie pie and a Roast Chicken dish (with frozen vegies as stuffing)
Dessert-Carrot and corn pikelets served with ice-cream
Check out the pics below...

The girls made pizza for entree, curry pastry with rice for the main course and frozen corn/red bean ice cream for dessert. According to the judge (Adrian), our kick-ass mains dishes got us the edge over the girls so I guess we are the unoffical cell group Iron Chef winners :) But really, it was all good fun and nice to chill out with each other.

Now I'm off to bed and digest that yummy food -_-

Google Video

Was playing around with Google Video last night, so much so I went to bed at the insane hour of...4am. I won't explain too much what it is cos when you put 'Google' and 'video' together, it must be...a search engine for videos! (duh)

You find alot of amateur stuff on Google video and I'm not surprised. After the likes of Star Wars Kid, Numa Numa and Chinese Backstreet Boys, who wouldn't want to have a go at getting their 15mins (or secs) of fame? Speaking of Chinese BSB, I think there are too many of them out there. The one with two asian guys in orange adidas outfit wasn't bad but then you start seeing all these wannabes lip-syncing 'As long as you love me' complete with EXTREME hand and body movements it gets a bit..er..gay

Anyway, woke up at midday (see? 8 hrs of sleep, just shifted back), went to gym and then to Sanity to use my $25 voucher I got from the beach mission team. Bought Switchfoot (Nothing is Sound) and James Blunt (Back to Bedlam) and paid $17 all up. Schweeet.

Awwww...

For those who are curious, the outdoor ceremony was held inside an apple orchard somewhere in Bilpin under misty conditions. How beautiful!
