ICQ spam

Those ICQ Authoization Requests are getting crazier by the day. It must be the second most spammed application in the Internet today behind email. Here's one I got just then:

Hi
We are russian company, and we require agents in AU, because we don't have offices there at the moment

How nice of the mafia to think highly of me. If only engineering companies operate the same way.

Coming out of the closet

So a Simpsons character will come out of the closet in the not too distant future. I doubt it'll be Smithers because his sexuality is hardly a secret. So that narrows it down to...

Homer/Marge/Bart/Lisa/Grandpa Simpson, Selma, Patty, Herb Powell, Ned/Rod/Todd Flanders, Kirk/Luann/Milhouse Van Houten, Apu/Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief/Sarah/Ralph Wiggum, Dr Hibbert, Reverend/Helen Lovejoy, Cletus, Mr Burns, Lenny, Carl, Charlie, Principal Skinner, Superintendent Chalmers, Ms Krabappel, Miss Hoover, Mr Largo, Willie, Doris the lunchlady, Dr Pryor (psychiatrist), Otto Mann, Nelson Muntz, Jimbo, Dolph, Kearney, Martin Prince, Wendell, 'The school nerds', Louis, Janie, Sherrie and Terrie, Uter, Mayor Quimby, Lou, Eddie, Lionel Hutz, Snake, Fat Tony, Krusty the Klown, Sideshow Bob, Sideshow Mel, Kent Brockman, Arnie Pie, Bumblebee Man, Roger Meyers, Troy McClure, Rainer Wolfcastle, Moe, Barney, Dr Nick Riviera, Comic Book guy, Disco Stu, Duffman, Hans Moleman, Jasper and Herman the military antiques store owner.

I guess you can chuck in Kang and Kodos for good measure.

Who do you think?

First day back

Don't ask me how I did it but I managed to rock up at 7:30 this morning (8am lecture). Perhaps it was because I didn't have uni yesterday but I can assure you it won't happen again next week. Why is the EE department always doing this to us? My timetable is always so ugly looking. I would rather stay back an hour in the afternoon than coming in an hour early. To top off a crappy morning, the lecturer had no idea how to use the microphone. I don't give a toss that he's new because fair dinkum, we pay $600 to 'learn' yet you have someone who can't even communicate with his students.

In-session Daytona Showdown also started today with me coming a respectable 2nd. I say respectable because Jono beat me BUT I managed to beat two 'pros' in Russ and Nick. Hahahaha =D

Play the man, not the cards

Yay! I finally walked away from a poker table with more money than I started. The $8.50 win eased some of the pain Nick inflicted on me two poker nights ago and to a small degree the $40 I forked out to watch Electric Six on Thursday night (S.P.O.D = S.H.I.T). To pinch a quote from Rounders: Play the man, not the cards.

Nick, my beanie is now on par with your fisherman hat. Hahahaha......

Without Mastercard...

Train fare from West Ryde to Pennant Hills station: $1.40
Bus fare from Pennant Hills station to Castle Towers: $3.30
Breakfast (small latte and choc muffin) from Gloria Jeans: $7
Waking up at 6am in freezing weather to be at work by 9: Priceless

Work was not much better. It was just stacking up Lion King 2/Haunted Mansion DVDs(released tomorrow) and set up Target's toy sale starting on Thursday. According to Rotten Tomatoes, both movies got a rotten rating so unless you have a fetish for Disney products, spend that $30 elsewhere.

2004 Semester 1 results

The good: I passed everything.
The bad: My (low) WAM has dropped again because I literally passed everything.
The ugly: I have a Conceded Pass.

I've always flirted with failure in my circuit theory courses and once again I did not disappoint. A 46 in ELEC3006 will go alongside my 64 in ELEC1011, 55 in ELEC2031, 50 in ELEC2032. Charming. As you can see, analyzing capacitors, resistors is not really my thing. Blowing them up is.

From Dusk Till Dawn

The first half of From Dusk Till Dawn is just like Pulp Fiction. The quotes, the gun killings (or killings in general) and the Quentin Tarantinos. Then the movie just falls apart at the 'Titty Twister' bar (how ironic). Is it an action film about two fugitives on the run? Or a B grade horror flick about vampires killing people in some strip bar? It just doesn't cut it when you mix the two together. So for those who haven't seen it, watch it up to and including the bit when Selma Hayek does her little snake dance and toys with Tarantino. If you watch the whole thing, you'll regret it afterwards.

A Time for Everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-15)

I felt uneasy walking in but by the time I walked out after the free lunch (for first timers), my nerves have settled.

Today's sermon was titled: "Time: Tyranny or Tapestry?" and whilst I did not understand fully what the pastor was going on, I picked up bits along the way so I guess it's ok for someone new like myself. Now the hard part is making the commitment to be a Christian. Everyone made me feel welcome by introducing themselves which was nice. In fact, there's two guys (Richard and Chris) who went to Sydney Boys' so there's some Old Boys connection for you =) Overall it was a fun experience and hopefully next week will be much the same.

What a jip

Well, the stove is finally fixed but not before some hardcore jipness. My journey to find the mainboard's ceramic fuse started at the local hardware store and Tandy, then Bunnings Thornleigh, Dick Smith Macquarie Centre and finally Wagners Ashfield (yes, I went all over Sydney to find a fuse). Given the sort of day I was having, I had no luck at any of the places, so the final resort was to call Energy Australia's Emergency Services. I don't know why it is called 'Emergency Service' but after ringing them at 5pm, they did not arrive till 4 hours later. Some service! The guy asked a few questions regarding the situation, fitted a new fuse and that was it. All that for $85!! He was present for what, 10 minutes at most?!? I could of gone to a shop, bought the damn thing for around $20 and fitted it myself. It's a disgrace.

Another whitegood bites the dust

I can't believe it. I have been handed down full responsibility to fix the stove. After spending 3 hours with dad locating the problem (not to mention all that engineering propaganda he gave me), the problem was found: a 'ground' wire made contact with a 'live' wire which was in pretty bad shape already and caused a burnt fuse. He's already given me some pointers on how to fix the thing so it's all up to me to go do it. With my knowledge of electricity, I'll probably get myself electrocuted and not live out today. Haha.

Late Night Poker (at Ho's house)

I hate you Nick.
I hate you Nick.
I hate you Nick.

"Bandanna man" with his pathetic headwear laying down the law.

Nick's cards revealed to the home audience through the 'table cam'.

Nick wins again with his 7 Hearts. What a fluke.

The turning point for me. I had the flush secured right from the start, went hard and ended up losing it all to Nick because of his 'higher' flush. Grrrrr.....

The first man to lose his $5.

Why am I even putting this pic up?

'Bandanna man' just won something big? No, just everyone's ante.

Gamble Up!

'Heads and Tails' is so bullshit. Played it at Revesby Workers' last night and here's the breakdown:

Bet 1: 5 games, $1/game, won 2 games, $4 return
Bet 2: 5 games, $1/game, won 1 game, $2 return
Bet 3: 5 games, $1/game, won 0 games, $0 return

And the fact Russ and I picked opposites of each other made the $9 loss even more painful. That son of a bitch, I'll get him back some day. Even Thomas the operator dude mocked me after the third bet. Far out.

Groovy Greeks

Woke up to the news this morning that Greece beat Czech Republic 1-0 in the semi-finals of Euro 2004. Well how about that. A team of no-names have beaten some of Europe's top teams and will now play Portugal in the final. I think Portugal will win but who knows, with so many upsets so far in the tournament, another 'Greek tragedy' is possible (memo to sports headline/report writers: Stop using the term 'Greek tragedy' everytime after a Greece victory. It's sooo overused). Now who's kind enough to let me crash at their place Monday morning cos I don't have Fox :P
